“MARCOPOLO, YOUR JOURNEY STARTS HERE" COMPETES FOR PRESTIGIOUS LITERARY AWARD IN BRAZIL

The book "Marcopolo, your journey starts here" has just been entered by Publisher Campos-Elsevier in the 2013 edition of the “Prêmio Jabuti”, one of the most important and expressive literary awards of Brazilian literature. 

Released last December and now in its second edition, the book tells the successful story of Marcopolo, the Brazilian bus manufacturer, in becoming one of the largest companies in the world with 20 factories spread on five continents and products sold in over 100 countries.

The selection of works to compete for the “Prêmio Jabuti” is divided in two parts. In the first round, to be held in September, each of the three judges will choose ten books between the competitors in each category, the provided finalists will then participate of the second round.

In the second part, which takes place in October, the jury will evaluate and assign grades to all finalists. The three contenders receiving the highest scores will be deemed the winners of the “Prêmio Jabuti 2013” in its category and ranked first, second and third places.

Teamwork and more than relevant participations

With over 300 pages, the book "Marcopolo, your journey starts here" features interviews and stories told by over 90 people, who followed closely the triumphant trajectory of the company, and demonstrate the origins of the peculiar culture and values of the author on the importance of teamwork, commitment, people motivation and ethics.

The preface is written by Marcus Vinicius Pratini, economist and former minister. The book also includes an essay by the anthropologist Roberto Da Matta and a tour bus, which demonstrates the presence of public transport vehicles, and its influences and characteristics in our lives and history.

The publication has the participation and testimonials of leading national and international entrepreneurs, who comment on the role and importance of Marcopolo: Jorge Gerdau Johannpeter, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Gerdau; Ratan Tata, chairman of Tata Sons; José Galló, CEO of Lojas Renner retail chain; José Antonio Fernandes Martins, president of Fabus (National Association of Bus Manufacturers) and Jaime Lerner, architect, former governor of the state of Paraná and former mayor of the city of Curitiba, where he was a pioneer in the introduction of one the most modern public transport systems in the world.
