MARCOPOLO’S VIALE BRT BUS WINS AN INTERNATIONAL DESIGN AWARD

The vehicle stood out for its unprecedented design, comfort and efficiency

On February 28, Marcopolo’s Viale BRT bus will receive the iF Product Design Award 2014 in the Transport category at a ceremony during the Munich Creative Business Week. The Viale BRT was designed based on global design trends in collective transport and was recognized as a standout in criteria such as innovation, design quality, material selection, environmental impact, safety and accessibility, among others.

For Petras Amaral, Marcopolo’s Corporate Design Manager, the award confirms the Brazilian manufacturer’s leading position in the bus sector and reflects the dedication of Design Center employees in developing the project. “I’m very pleased about this achievement. The Viale BRT is the most advanced model to be manufactured in Brazil and features a number of innovative urban mobility solutions. It has large windows and is longer and taller than conventional buses, ensuring greater visibility and comfort for the driver and passengers. The bus also features a roof-mounted air conditioning system, interior advertising and full LED lighting”, explains the executive.

With its futuristic design, Marcopolo’s Viale BRT meets all the requirements for boarding platform systems in several different countries and can be adjusted to cater to specific needs in terms of passenger numbers and accessibility. The vehicle is equipped with exclusive front and rear LED lights that ensure better illumination and reinforce the brand identity.

The rear design of the Viale BRT is also innovative for the sector, particularly its lights, bumper and rear covering. The new LED taillights and turn signals increase visibility and safety as well as distinguishing the Viale BRT from other buses because of its vertical lighting.

The vehicle features excellent front and rear LED lighting and is the first Brazilian bus to offer daytime running lights. Optional extras include GPS, digital TV, surveillance and safety cameras similar to those used on aircraft, and an onboard computer to relay route and stopping information in real time.

The iF Design Award 2014 attracted more than 4,600 applicants from 55 countries and honors approximately 100 projects in 17 categories every year. Aimed at recognizing innovative products that offer real benefits to consumers, the winning companies receive the IF seal for outstanding design quality.  Introduced in 1954, the award is sponsored and organized by the iF International Forum Design and recognizes major global designs of products manufactured in a wide range of segments.
