MARCOPOLO TO SUPPLY 486 BUSES FOR TRANSANTIAGO BRT SYSTEM, IN CHILE

Brazilian busbuilder will provide Gran Viale and Senior model units

Marcopolo will delivery 486 buses for the operators SU-BUS and Alsacia/Express, which operate in the massive transportation system in the city of Santiago, capital of Chile. The deal involves the acquisition of 310 units of the Gran Viale model and 176 of the Senior microbus. The vehicles will be produced in Brazil, at Ana Rech and Planalto Plants, in Caxias do Sul, Brazi, then go to Chile.

According to Rodrigo Pikussa, Marcopolo export manager, this new order is important because it consolidates Marcopolo's position as the largest bus supplier for the Transantiago system, one of the most advanced in the American continent, that has already put over 3,000 new vehicles. “Since the beginning of the implementation of the system, Marcopolo supplied about 2,000 buses, most of them the articulated model, used in central bus lanes”, the executive explains.

From the total of 310 units of the Gran Viale bus, Marcopolo will supply 231 units with Scania K230 chassis, with the new Euro V engine, automatic transmission and low floor, with great capacity for passenger transportation. The remaining 79 urban model units will feature Volvo B290R Low Entry chassis, automatic transmission and capacity for 101 passengers (24 seated, 77 standing) and space reserved for wheel chairs with ramp access. Additionally, it was purchased 176 Senior microbuses, with Mercedes-Benz LO915 chassis, automatic transmission and capacity for 53 passengers (20 seated and 33 standing), which will be used to feed the Transantiago system.
